Although Linux is an accepted standard for animation and graphics at a number of post houses, few applications for the open source software turn up elsewhere.
SpectSoft hopes to change that. With the release of RaveHD 2.0 at NAB 2006, the Oakdale, Calif.-based company offers a Linux-based uncompressed client/server DDR designed for multi-user high-end film workflow. Since it is a client/server device, it allows facilities to control a number of DDRs from a single interface.
RaveHD supports uncompressed 8- and 10-bit SD, HD, dual-link HD (4:4:4), and 2K (HSDL), as well as offering hardware-accelerated upconversion and downconversion. The RaveHD Xenon system features integrated RS-422 hardware, which allows for slave and master control, unlimited scalability, two 10/100/1000Gb Ethernet ports, and Fibre Channel and FireWire upgrade options. www.spectsoft.com
