As working resolutions continue to rise and pipelines in post get more complex, solutions for improved throughput are worth considering. That's what Iridas offers with MetaRender; introduced at IBC 2008, the app is set to automate complex transcoding tasks in production pipelines and post facilities.

MetaRender can be controlled from SpeedGrade to offload rendering to one or more separate machines, or it works as a standalone render-management system to batch process transcoding tasks across whole render farms. Timelines can be rendered out as one complete file or as individual clips, each with their own reel ID and timecode information.

Iridas' head of software development, Michael Gallo, spots the product as ideal for working with editing apps such as AppleFinal Cut Pro, because MetaRender can generate proxies with file names and timecodes for offline editing. The resulting EDL will be sent back to SpeedGrade DI for finishing work on the original full-resolution content. www.iridas.com
