NextComputing NextServer Evo

The NextComputing NextServer Evo modular server.

Server OS choices include SuSe, Red Hat, CentOS, Windows 2003/2008 Server, and Solaris 10 x86. Price: Varies upon configuration

Modular architectures for computers have been around for a while, most commonly turning up in corporate installations where large amounts of specifically tweaked gear might be needed at once. NextComputing brings this flexibility to standalone systems with the introduction of its NextServer Evo, a rackmount server that employs the company's modular FleXtreme architecture.

The company uses hardware that offers broad configuration choices, such as four full-length PCI-X/PCI Express slots that allow single- or dual-width cards. Users can also specify up to two quad-core Intel Xeon processors, up to 24GB of RAM, up to 16TB of front-access removable SATA or SAS storage—along with the standard FleXtreme fixed and removable storage—for a total of up to 24TB.
