Todd Haynes: It's a Unique Time for Independent FIlmmakers

Carol director Todd Haynes talks to Wired about his latest film, acclaimed for its aesthetics and its emotional complexities as it tells the story of two women who fall in love in 1950s New York.

Haynes, who has been making acclaimed independent films for twenty years, also discusses the new distribution platforms available to filmmakers. "I think we’re in a unique time right now where cable and streaming are developing a healthy competitive climate that’s trying to lure filmmakers and independent voices into their realms,” he says. “It may not continue in this way, but it’s great to see it happen as it’s happening now.”
