Thread: H.264 compression takes forever?

    Default H.264 compression takes forever?

It seems like compression in H.264 takes forever. I'm using the HD, 60 minute DVD setting in Compressor, and it's saying it will take about 7 hours to compress a 5 minute HD Quicktime file. Is my computer tired or what? (I'm using a MacBook Pro, 2Ghz Core Intel Duo).

H.264 is a complex codec and does take a helluva time...
Good thing is, jobs can be segmented so you can utilize a virtual cluster for your job...:

    1) set up a virtual cluster.
    2) submit compressor batch to "This computer", and check "Include unmanaged services on other computers"...

    Hmmm,
after checking with Compressor3, it seems the correct setting for node computer in a virtual cluster, is "share this computer as SERVICES". Not Quickcluster with services.. Different versions I guess...

Also, remember to check "allow job segmenting" in your H.264 settings.

Open activity monitor (separate program, found in "applications" folder), to verify that all CPU are busy with your job.
