Default Video FX in the middle....

Is there a way to add for example a cookie cutter to the middle of a clip w/o using two of the same video tracks? I would like to have the FX just fade in.

Why worry about multiple video tracks? Vegas handles even dozens of video tracks without sweating it.

I know...I would like to have one track slowly fade to B/W though. Is ther a way to do that?

If that's all you want, just add a Black and White effect to the clip, leave the initial keyframe in color, add a second keyframe and make it B&W. As the timeline progresses between the two keyframes, it will gradually lose its color.

    Monday a week (April 18).

There will be streaming video of the first Vegas 6 and DVD3 classes at Sony's NAB booth, available at Vegasusers.
