Method Does Battle for 'Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter'

Method Studios completed 223 shots for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, delivering effects including an Abraham Lincoln digital double and a CG Civil War-era train. In addition to setting a trestle bridge aflame, the Method team performed crowd duplication services and crafted fully digital environments, including the Washington Capitol building.

“Our main sequence involved the collapse of a burning bridge, which also featured Abe Lincoln and Will Johnson involved in hand-to-hand combat with a group of vampires,” says Method visual effects supervisor Randy Goux. “The actors were shot on two static box car tops against greenscreen—the rest of the surrounding environment and effects were all CG. The director’s filmmaking style included the use of extreme slow motion, so we developed a flexible system for creating complex volumetric smoke effects.”
