Stillmotion's Share Sheds Light on a Worthy Cause Via Professionally-Produced Videos

The Share initiative from Stillmotion is a once-a-year volunteer project which will serve to highlight a not-for-profit organization via a professionally produced video. Says Vincent Laforet about it, "[Stillmotion] felt that rather than donating a percentage of profits to a cause, they could better help that cause by donating their greatest asset – which is a penchant for fantastic storytelling. I have to agree that this is an amazing and gracious approach to giving back.

'Chronicle' Reinvents Found Footage Genre with Codex/ARRIRAW Workflow

Chronicle, the stylish sci-fi thriller from and Twentieth Century Fox, employed Codex Digital recording and workflow technology while shooting on location in South Africa. The film used Codex Onboard recorders in tandem with the ARRI Alexa cameras to capture camera data in ARRIRAW format.

A classified ad beginning with this request ran in a survivalist magazine in the mid-1990s. Later it was posted online, where it became something of a sensation and the source of many parodies. Upon seeing the ad, screenwriter Derek Connolly immediately envisioned the concept as the basis for a script. The title would be taken from the original ad: Safety Not Guaranteed.

Trucking Tremors
It seems that almost every day I receive an ad or e-mail touting the latest slider, dolly or other method of trucking (moving) the camera during a shot. Most of them are very nice but also very expensive. Over my almost 50 years of making pictures I have used a number of methods to do the job, and most of them were free.
