Oscar Cinematography Nominees Discuss Film Versus Digital
Two of this year's Oscar cinematography nominees were shot on film (The Artist, War Horse), two were shot digitally (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Hugo) and one was shot with a hybrid of both (The Tree of Life). The nominated cinematographers of all five films present their varying opinions on film vs. digital to the L.A. Times. Says The Tree of Life's Emmanuel Lubezki, "I think this is a wonderful time for a cinematographer. You can have 65-millimeter, 35, 16 and so on, and then you have all the range of incredible digital cameras that are not like film but allow you to create wonderful images."
