CLIPSTER, Sony Present Real-Time 4K Film Data at Cannes
At a party titled "4 the love of movies," the real-time uncompressed 4K film data was supplied by a DVS CLIPSTER.
Hanover/Cannes. Using the beautiful Chateau de La Napoule as a venue, Ascent Media', Screen International' and Sony's 300 invited guests were given a preview of 4K digital cinema. In an auditorium especially built for the event, excerpts from "Spiderman" and "The Music Man" were screened in 4K resolution (4096 x 2160). The presentations continued into the early hours and were a huge success; the 11-minute breathtaking sequences were followed by rapturous applause!
Supplying such massive quantities of data to a 4K projector is technically very demanding. CLIPSTER, DVS' digital intermediate system, rises to this challenge by supplying 4K RGB 10 bit data through 8 HD-SDI links.
At this year's NAB, Sony and DVS performed their duet at the Sony stand using the same configuration of SRX-R110 4K digital cinema projector together with CLIPSTER. Given the enthusiastic response to this new technology, DVS was more than delighted to join the show in Cannes too.
The two companies have enjoyed close ties for some time. For example, DVS supplies Sony Picture Studios with equipment and there have been numerous DVS system sales to Sony R&D establishments worldwide.
CLIPSTER is one of the most powerful digital intermediate solutions in the market. At NAB 2005 version 2.0 software was launched. In version 2.0, 4K becomes a reality and conforming and finishing tools, such as primary and secondary color correction have been further enhanced. CLIPSTER has won several awards and enjoys an excellent reputation in the digital intermediate arena.
