AbelCine Brings Its World-Class Training to DV Expo

AbelCine's Training Department will return to Digital Video Expo September 19-21 to again offer a series of practical, educational sessions for digital production professionals.

Designed to develop and strengthen your understanding of different aspects of production, the selection of sessions includes: The Hows and Whys of Lighting; HD Frame Rates, Color and Compression; On-Set Workflows and Media Management; Intro to Digital Cinema: Raw, Log, and Uncompressed; and Choosing the Right Camera.

The Hows and Whys of Lighting: The first part of this day-long session will explore the basic properties of light, and then will study physical fixtures and light sources within them. The second part addresses styles and motivations of lighting practice, the moves into practical examples and hands-on set-ups. Wednesday, Sept. 19th, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., $275

HD Frame Rates, Color and Compression: This half-day workshop focuses on the many different video formats available for production and post pros. Designed to give you a better understanding of video formats and how they compare with each other. Topics include broadcast standards, frame rates, compression, color space and recording media. Formats covered include Sony XDCAM, Panasonic P2, ARRI ALEXA, RED RAW, Canon HDSLR, Canon XF, AVCHD, and HDV. Thursday, Sept. 20th, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., $150

On-Set Workflows and Media Management: This half-day session focuses on the many different workflows in use today, from the most compressed to the highest-end digital acquisition formats. Designed to give you a wide overview of popular and preferred workflow methods, the class pays special attention to understanding computer file systems, data management practices, naming conventions, and NLE importing. Thursday, Sept. 20th 12:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m., $150

Intro to Digital Cinema: Raw, Log, and Uncompressed: This half-day class focuses on the latest digital cinema cameras in use today, from the new Blackmagic Cinema Camera all the way up to the RED EPIC and Sony F65. Emphasis is placed on understanding and working with Raw- and Log-based camera systems, both on set and in post. Friday, Sept. 21st, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., $150

Choosing the Right Camera: Focused on the differences between camera formats and their respective workflows, this half-day workshop gives you a foundation for comparing cameras, addressing sensor size, resolution, form factor, lens choices, recording media and compression, workflows, and price. The instructors will break down several different shooting scenarios and compare camera capabilities and performance. Friday, Sept. 21st, 12:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m., $150
