If horror film The Cabin in the Woods does well this weekend, will it be because of the good reviews, the fans of its genre or the devoted fanbase of its creators, Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard?

If we had to guess, we'd go with the latter, through Whedon himself told Wired, "I have a strong and passionate and intelligent fan base. But it’s very easy to go on the Internet and convince yourself that the entire world is talking about you and then see box office returns and go, ‘It was just those five guys!’ I think that there are almost as many people who would stay away from something because of me as there are who will see it."
