Fusion-io to Integrate ioFX Acceleration Into HP Z Workstations
Fusion-io has announced that it is collaborating with global workstation leader HP to integrate the Fusion ioFX into the HP Z820, Z620 and Z420 Workstations. The integrated solutions will offer development platforms for professional artists in visual effects, digital content creation (DCC) and computer-aided design (CAD). In addition, professionals interested in adding the Fusion ioFX to their current HP Workstation can purchase the ioFX as a custom integration component.

Post FCP 7, Which NLE Do I Teach?
Philip Hodgetts writes on his site: Probably the most interesting conversation I had at NAB was Sunday night at the Independent Filmmakers of the Inland Empire KISS mini-golf event. The setting might have been unique but the problem was not: Now that Final Cut Pro 7 isn’t the default choice for colleges (and high schools) to teach, which NLE do I teach? As the conversation continued it became obvious that there were more factors at work than just taking a punt on which NLE will become the “next FCP 7″.

Let's examine a handful of them: "Reframe" and "Pan and Scan" are synonymous with one big feature in v7 - the 'handling' of resolutions above HD. By handling, I mean the scaling and shifting of video frame sizes over HD into a smaller HD frame size. NAB 2013 Distilled
Oliver Peters of digitalfilms writes: Another year – another NAB exhibition. A lot of fun stuff to see. Plenty of innovation and advances, but no single “shocker” like last year’s introduction of the Blackmagic Cinema Camera. Here are some observations based on this past week in Las Vegas. 4K Yes, 4K was all over. I was a bit surprised that many of the pieces for a complete end-to-end solution are in place. The term 4K refers to the horizontal pixel width of the image, but two common specs are used – the DCI (film) standard of 4096 and the UltraHD (aka QuadHD) standard of 3840. Both are “4K”. Forgotten in the discussion is frame rate. Many displays were showing higher frame rates, such as 4K at 60fps. 120fps is also being discussed.
